Sea Turtle

Sea turtles are mainly herbivores. Baby sea turtles only eat small plants such as algae. Adults sometimes eat jellyfish.

Sea turtles bury their eggs on land. At night, after they hatch, the babies will bright light such as the moon to find the ocean. But sometimes they are confused by electric lights from buildings on the other side. This is one reason that sea turtles are endangered.

Another reason sea turtles are endangered is due to pollution in the ocean. Also, humans will sometimes step on turtle eggs or gather them up.

  • Individual sections on the shell are called “scutes” (pronounced “scoots”).
  • Sea turtles emerge from their eggs at night so that they won’t be seen by predators.
